José Luis Ochoa Lescay
José Luis Ochoa Lescay is a Cuban artist based in Winterthur, Switzerland. Born and raised in one of the poorest neighborhoods of Santiago de Cuba, Ochoa discovered his passion for painting as a child and started producing his own tools and painting on anything he could find.
Inspired by the vibrant colors and spiritual traditions of his Cuban roots, Ochoa creates art that transcends outer appearance and depicts inner meaning. His paintings and sculptures are characterised by Caribbean intensity, freedom and a deep connection with the universe
“When I paint, I am connected to the universe, to everything that is and may be. I feel an energy that embraces my soul, flows through my heart, and—carried by my blood—reaches my hand. At some point, the colors and shapes on the canvas begin to speak to me. Slowly and quietly. But I can hear them. And I know: What I do is a gift from God, one that I am allowed to accept and live out.”
