René Galassi

Born in France, René Galassi discovered art through practice and experimentation rather than formal study. First drawn to the contrasts of black and white in photography and ink drawings, he soon turned to etching and then painting, driven by a need for substance and texture beyond flat surfaces. Using raw and unconventional materials—resins, pigments, clay, gold and silver leaf, cement, sand, and lime—he developed a distinctive language rooted in materiality and contrast.

Today, Galassi’s work is defined by its tactile depth and emotional resonance. His creative process often begins with spontaneous scribbles, a visual shorthand for sensations that evolve into layered artworks. Inspired by the textures of nature, landscapes, and the traces of human intervention, he views art as a journey of continual discovery—an exploration of boundaries where matter, emotion, and imagination converge.
